Strategize Your Narrowboat Holidays for 2023
Plan Your Canal Exploration with These Warwickshire Gems
The new year is a great time to start considering what adventures you want to go on over the next 12 months, so put your thinking cap on for choosing your canal boat holidays in 2023.
Warwickshire Ring
One of the best routes to explore this year has to be the 104-mile Warwickshire Ring. This takes in at least 121 locks through the Grand Union, Oxford, Coventry and Birmingham canals.
Due to the distance, this trip can take a couple of weeks to complete, allowing holidaymakers to soak up the picturesque scenery, history and most famous ‘wet streets’ in Birmingham along the way.
“Moor up in Gas Street Basin in the heart of Birmingham to soak up the bright lights and buzz of a city after starlit countryside nights sound tracked by the hoots of owls,” a CN Traveller article recommended.
Forth and Clyde Canal
Enjoy the breath-taking sights of Scotland by journeying 35 miles between the Firth of Clyde and the Firth of Forth.
As well as the interesting views, you can experience the Falkirk Wheel, which transports narrowboats 79 feet into the air to enable them to join the Union Canal on the way to Edinburgh.
Llangollen Canal
Or why not take in the tranquil views of the Welsh countryside by enjoying a trip along the Llangollen Canal?
This short round excursion from Chirk to Eisteddfod is ideal for beginners, allowing to gain practice with four locks and experience passing over an aqueduct before taking on the longer routes.
